General Questions

What is wikitip.info?

WikiTip is a set of technologies put toghether in order to provide websites' readers with tooltips that explains speciality terms in various articles. The terms definitions are stored in Knowledge Clustes created under wikitip.info network. Those clusters are WordPress sites where posts represent terms definitions while post tags represent the terms themselves.

A set of client files can be integrated in target websites. Those files will provide connection and retrieval of specific terms from wikitip.info Knowledge Clusters of choice. At this time we can supply those files in the form of a WordPress plugin that can be easily installed into any Wordpress site (standalone or multisite). In future more integration options will be provided such as generic PHP sites, ASP.NET, etc.

The whole concept will eliminate the need of a local glossary while providing these extra advantages:

  1. Knowledge Clusters owners can use wikitip.info collaboration tools to develop the terms definitions in teams
  2. Knowledge Clusters owners can monetize on their clusters by opting to enter in different subscription packages offered by wikitip.info (a payment scheme will be developed here)
  3. Webmasters can utilize one or more Knowledge Clusters inside their websites, reutilizing knowledge already developed

I added a new definition to my cluster but it does not appear in the tooltip

You need to prepare the terms database after any manual adition or import of one or more definitions. Normally this step is automatically done every day but if there is any urgency you can manually call the procedure by using this link yourcluster.wikitip.info/apis/dorian/make_trie . Dorian is the name of the JSON controller that works with the current version of the WikiTip plugin (1.0). Future versions will have different names.

We will include this command inside the administration panel of the plugin in the next version.

Please note that the process may end eating up all server's memory if you have many terms in your dictionary. If you cannot get it working several times please contact us for help.
